Dr. Wyngaarden was appointed Chairman of the Board of Directors in 2000. Dr. Wyngaarden joined the Company's board in 1990 and was appointed Vice Chairman in 1997. He was Director of the National Institutes of Health from 1982 to 1989. He later served on the council of the Human Genome Organization from 1990 to 1993 and was the organization’s Director from 1990 to 1991. He was elected Foreign Secretary of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences from 1990 to 1994. Dr. Wyngaarden is also a member of the board of directors of Human Genome Sciences, Inc. and Magainin Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Dr. Wyngaarden is the recipient of the John Phillips Memorial Award of the American College of Physicians and the Kober Medal of the Association of American Physicians.
